Dreams and Goals

In a creative sense, 2013 is going to be an entirely different year for me than 2012 was.  This year the creative goal that is foremost in my mind, is to write more.  Not blog writing though, this time.  For those who don't know, I am an aspiring children's writer and illustrator.  I know this journey of crafting sentences and paragraphs into actual pages in actual books will be a long one, and having spent a year off from writing (after my first, unpublished YA manuscript was shortlisted for this award), it's high time to re-priortise.  I had a fun year past, crafting, party-making and blogging to my heart's content, but this year my mantra will be, If there's time to blog, there's time to write.

We'll still be going on adventures and I'll still be crafting a little, so I'll be around.  But ya know, I won't be posting 3 times a day ;-)

So, some of my dreams and goals for 2013:

Dream - To enter the Storylines Awards again, and to send my previous work to a publisher.
Goal - To write, write, write.  And do a lot of editing on my already mostly finished manuscript.

Dream - To parent more intentionally.
Goal - Plan my week ahead with built-in purpose-filled activities with my kids.

Dream - To be more organised.
Goal - Continually work on de-cluttering our home.  Use my beautiful Frankie diary throughout the year rather than discarding it after January as I have done with other diaries.

Dream - To eat mostly locally sourced foods.
Goal - Find sources for as many foods as poss, and simplify our diet so that these foods make up the majority of what we eat.

Dream - To craft more meaningfully.
Goal - Having fewer craft projects will mean using my craft time for larger and ultimately more meaningful ones.  Quilts for the children, for example.

What do you hope to achieve in the new year?  Do you have any great big exciting plans?

  1. Some of my goals are similar to yours. I have been writing a novel for nearly 4 years now, and I really hope to finish the manuscript by the end of this Summer, and have it completely edited, done & dusted by Christmas. Here's hoping we both succeed in our book writing ventures! xx
